Scan the back of your eyes to detect the earliest signs of changes and ensure that your eyes are healthy. Our opticians recommend this for everyone.
It’s crucial to visit an optician at least once a year and have an OCT scan. Did you know that the majority of eye conditions lie beneath the eye’s surface? It’s therefore incredibly difficult to know when you are suffering from a problem.
During your annual check-up, our expert team will look into your eyes for signs that could indicate a potential problem. Occasionally, a thorough examination is needed and this is when we will use a state-of-the-art camera called an OCT (which stands for ocular coherence tomography). The camera will use light waves to take an image and a scan of the retina (back of the eye), including parts that can’t be seen from the surface.
The camera works by using light waves, taking a series of snapshots of various parts of your eye. The images are then combined to create a 3D image which is sent to your optician’s computer. Once our opticians have received the image, they are able to enlarge it and examine it in great detail, looking for even the smallest indication that you could have a problem.
The process is completely painless; all you have to do is rest your chin on the stand provided and look directly into the camera’s lens. Remember, the majority of eye conditions don’t have any symptoms. That’s why we strongly recommend that you have your eyes scanned using OCT at least once a year; especially if you are over 40, as you are at a higher risk of developing certain eye conditions.
