Frequently Asked Questions
Is Eyedeal Vision a part of a chain of opticians?

No, we are unique family business. We are an independent practice. Expect to receive our full attention when you choose us, for us a client is never a number!

How long has Eyedeal Vision been here for?

We opened in 1990. Originally, we were across the road (where Dolly’s curtains is), we then grew and needed a larger optical showroom. So, we moved to the location we are at now in 1999. We had the full refurbishment in 2017. See pictures of our optical showroom here; View Us

Independent optician or chain/multiple optician?

We would choose Independent opticians all day and every day. Biased? No, here’s why - Your visit to an independent optician will always be more personal, you’ll see the same faces, you won’t be rushed, the environment will be always be more relaxed, the customer service to you by an independent optician is always paramount, your eye test won’t be rushed in a 20 minute slot and you will receive more attention to needs.

Are you an independent optician?

Yes, we are, and we are 100% proud of this, as independent opticians are becoming more rare to find.

How does Eyedeal Vision compare to the optician chain multiples?

As an independent practice, we have full control over the services we provide, the products we love using and how we want to conduct our family business. This means we can offer the best service, have one-hour appointment slots, detailed eye tests, we have time to listen to you & your needs, provide the best quality frames, lenses, contact lenses and sunglasses. We are a family business and sole interest rests in looking after you, your eyes and making feel great in your eyewear.

This is so important to us.

Glasses

Frequently Asked Questions

How expensive are frames at Eyedeal Vision?

It all depends on which frame you really like and end up choosing.

The great news is that there are plenty of options to choose from and every day we help clients who previously went to chain opticians like Vision Express, Specsavers, Tesco, Costco and Boots. Our clients end up spending just a little more than they did at the chain stores to get something that they really like and makes them a feel good when they wear them. We also spend time with our clients when it comes to choosing their glasses; we don’t see you as a number. When you come to see us, it’s never a case of getting you in and out as quickly as possible. It’s about understanding you, your style and your needs.

Our frames start at around £130; the most common price point of our collections is around £198. For more luxury pieces there are plenty of choices at the higher end of the spectrum! They range at £220 to £400. But if you have a budget in mind of £150 or so for your frame, we’ll be able to show you plenty of options.

How expensive are lenses at Eyedeal Vision?

The lenses we work with are the highest quality available so that our clients benefit from the best possible vision. We will discuss with you in detail to find out exactly what you need in terms of your visual requirements and what you use your eyes for every day. After we have consulted you in regard to your visual needs, we will make recommendations, giving you several options based on your preferences and your prescription. Lens technology continues to keep advancing and improving, we will always show you the latest lens options. However, we know it’s just a case of deciding what’s best for you in terms of the quality and grade of lens that you want versus how much you want to spend on your eyewear. It’s about finding the right balance for you; we are always happy to work within your budget.

This is a guideline to give you a good idea of what to expect in terms of lens cost.

If you wear distance vision or near vision glasses our premium lenses start at £150 and go up to £405, depending on your prescription requirements. Basic single vision lenses are also available from £75.

If you wear varifocals you can expect to spend £405 to £735 for our premium lenses depending on your prescription requirements. Our more basic varifocals start from £245.

If you wear bifocals you can expect to spend £186 to £380 for our premium lenses depending on your prescription. Our more basic bifocals start from £119.

What is the average cost for a brand new pair of glasses?

The real answer to this is that it depends on what type of frame you choose, your prescription strength and your lens requirements.

Some of our clients will spend less, some will spend more, but this is the average.

The average for a new frame and single vision (distance or reading) lenses is around £295.

For clients that need varifocals the average they spend is around £610.

Clients that wear bifocals on average spend £365.

For most people this is more than what they have spent in other opticians, but they feel they are getting a lot more for their money at Eyedeal Vision. Read our reviews and you’ll find plenty of customers who have been happy with their glasses, experience and care they have received at Eyedeal Vision. Our clients may have spent more but it was absolutely worth it for them because they enjoy wearing their glasses far more than before and received the best possible vision from the superior lenses we offer.

Before coming here, many of our clients had been disappointed with their glasses in the past, so they would rather invest a bit more to get something that they actually feel good in and can see properly with, considering they will likely wear their glasses every day for 2 years or longer.

I want to use my old frame again for my new lenses?

This can be absolutely fine. A few points to keep in mind. We will need to keep your frame – make sure you have a spare pair you can wear for the 5-10-day duration that we have your frame for. If you are having good quality lenses put into an old frame that is not an issue, however if that frame breaks, we will not be able to guarantee replacement parts, making your brand-new lenses redundant. Also, the lenses in your current frame will go to waste, we advise that it may be more prudent to keep them as your spare pair in case of an emergency.

What’s the best sunglass available?

They all have a 2 year warranty, cut out 99.9% of sunlight glare, enhance colour, makes colours pop, give you the best clarity and you get full protection from UV light. That’s absolutely fine. We are happy to work to your budget and needs. We have frames in our finale range that are good quality, look great and are our last pieces from particular frame collections. We also have basic single vision or Varifocal lenses available to suit your budget.

I’m still not sure about how much I want to spend on my glasses?

If you’re still not sure and need to consider it I’d encourage you to come in for a discussion about your glasses and get a feel for what options we have to offer you - with no obligation. Even if you decide Eyedeal Vision isn’t the right place for you, you’ll get good practical advice that will help you wherever you finally choose to get your glasses from.

Do you have frames for a different face shapes and head size?

Yes we do! One size does not fit all. There’s nothing worse than being squeezed into a frame that simply doesn’t fit you. Eyedeal Vision specialise in giving our clients plenty of choice when it comes to size and shape.  We have frames for different head widths, face shapes, nose bridge widths and frames for petite faces.

I have a small face; do I need to choose from the children’s glasses, like I did at my last opticians?

Having to choose from the children’s frames is not ideal for any client. We have a range of frames for petite faces that not only look great but will also fit.

Do you have children’s frames?

Yes we do, our children’s frame range are from frame manufacturers that use better quality materials so they last longer. Obviously, glasses can still break with little people, we are always at hand to repair them.

Do chain opticians & online glasses sites use all the same lenses as Eyedeal Vision?

Chain Opticians & online sites usually have an agreement with lens manufacturers to sell particular lenses or use cheaper or early generation lenses. This allows the manufacturer to achieve bulk sales with the chain opticians & online sites, and in turn the chain opticians & online sites can sell them to you cheaply. Obviously, you will feel you have struck a deal when they are so cheap but bear in mind it is very likely to be older lens technology or inferior versions of the latest lenses.

We offer the latest lens products on the market and have always done so.

For example, if you asked a chain optician or online sites, for an Essilor bespoke X4D EyeCode tailor made varifocals – they are more than likely unable to give it to you. Why? Firstly, they cannot get hold of these lenses and secondly it fits outside of the low-cost glasses USP.

On a similar token, an optical survey was conducted a few years ago, if you asked for quote for a particular lens at a chain multiple or online site – they would more than likely be more expensive than an independent opticians. Of course, they would give you a cheaper option, but what they may not tell you is the lens is an older generation lens or a more standard lens. So yes, it comes across that they are cheaper. But if you asked for exact like for like, they would be dearer or wouldn’t have access to the product at all.

Are the frames at Eyedeal Vision different to chain/multiple opticians?

Yes. We don’t sell frames that can be found in multiples, this means you’ll find different brands of frames at our show room.  We stock frames that are designer and brands that are more niche. This means that you get to experience and see collections that are more superior in quality, elegance and are unique. You won’t find your neighbour wearing the same glasses as you – giving you that extra individuality and exclusivity.

We encourage our clients to wear glasses that are unique to them, their style and personality.

Why are you more expensive than say Specsavers or other chain opticians?

We pride ourselves from being different from the average optician. We feel our clients deserve the best quality frames, lenses, contact lenses, service and eye care. For us it’s about quality not quantity.

We don’t offer inferior products to our clients because they deserve the very latest products available. Our clients are always given different options and grades of frames and lenses to choose from. If a client requests an older generation product, we will be happy to grant them this but after educating them on the differences most of our clients will choose the better-quality products. Frames and lenses that are cheap are often mass-produced and older product technology.

Our clients deserve the best therefore we only deal with the best products.

Before coming here, many of our clients had been disappointed with their glasses in the past, so they would rather invest a bit more to get something that they actually feel good in and can see properly with, considering they will likely wear their glasses every day for 2 years or longer.

How long does it take for my glasses to me made?

Single vision (distance or near) glasses usually takes between 5-7 working days. Varifocals and Bifocals usually take 7-10 workings days.

What if I change my mind about the frame I have chosen?

We have 30 days Love Your Glasses Comfort Guarantee. So, if you decide you’re not happy with the frame you have chosen, we will exchange them with a frame you like from our other collections. We want you to love your glasses - it is really important to us that you are 100% happy with your glasses.

Love Your Glasses Comfort Guarantee

If, for any reason, you find that the fit of your frame is uncomfortable or if you have any discomfort with the lenses within 30 days of collecting your new glasses, you can choose an alternative frame and/or lenses that will be more comfortable for you. We guarantee you will love your glasses!

Where are my glasses made?

We have an onsite lab, where peter will cut down and glaze your lenses into your chosen frame. We order your chosen lenses from the top lens manufactures in the optical industry. Once your lenses arrive, they are shaped using a glazing machine and then finished by hand. Majority of opticians send your glasses away to be made, here at Eyedeal Vision we do it differently. Everything is done in house giving us the most control over your brand-new glasses. This is ensuring your glasses are assembled correctly, giving you the best vision and finish.

When do I collect my new glasses?

Once you have chosen your new glasses we will book you in for a fitting & collection appointment that suits you. This allows us to check your vision, the fitting of your new glasses and for you to see your new look in comfort. We want to make your 100% happy with your glasses before you leave our showroom. Collecting your new glasses is just as important as when you choose them.

What are bespoke or tailor-made lenses?

Bespoke or tailor-made lenses are made to measure. If you have a high prescription or want your lenses to give you the most superior vision, they can be tailor made. Tailor made lenses assess how you move you head and your eyes, how you stand, how you read, takes into account which eye is more dominant and how the frames sit on your face. There are up to 20 measurements that can be taken depending on the lens type you require, these are then sent to the lens company, and only then are your lenses made. They made to your exact visual specification. The lenses are laser cut to give you the clearest and the widest field of vision across the whole lens. Our clients find that they have superior vision, which almost feels like HD vision when they choose bespoke tailor-made lenses.

What is a visioffice?

This is a free-standing machine that measures you for your tailor made lenses, it will take up to 20 personalised measurements for your new lenses. We have one in our show room, come and have look!

What’s so special about the visioffice?

The technology behind the visioffice is patented and the best in its field for taking personalised lens measurements. The personalised measurements are called EyeCode.

Do chains have tailor made lenses?

They generally use a handheld tablet to take the measurements for their tailor-made lenses. This is not greatest way to take personalised measurements as it relies on the steadiness of person holding the tablet. If the tablet is not held properly or at the wrong angle or at the incorrect distance the measurements taken will not be accurate. The tablet only takes a few measurements. The visioffice that we use at Eyedeal Vision takes up to 20 measurements for any personalised tailor-made lenses. The patented visioffice by Essilor was the first to launch a free-standing tailor-made bespoke measuring service for lenses, which can only be found in some opticians - like us!

I play sports, can you help?

Absolutely, we have different options for different sports. There are various tints, lenses and frames to suit your sport. Check out our Sports Vision section.

What about glasses aftercare?

We provide ongoing aftercare service to look after your eyewear for as long as you have them. So if a screw is loose or they’re out of shape or you’ve damaged them- bring them in and let us fix them for you.

What if my glasses are broken & outside of warranty?

Warranty on frames & lenses is usually between 1-2 yrs. If your glasses are outside of warranty, we will help you find the best alternative to fix your glasses, so you can see again.

What about Repairs?

Peter is great at repairing glasses & sunglasses. Bring them in and we will do everything we can to fix them.  If we can’t we will find you an alternative solution that suits you. Check out our Repairs section.

Do you give out PD measurements? Pupillary distance

No. The person dispensing your glasses should measure your PD. They should always take your vertical heights and horizontal PD when measuring you up for your new glasses. If they don’t, the centre of lens may not be sitting directly in front of the centre of your eyes. This can lead to visual disturbances and poorer quality vision.

Why don’t you do 2 for 1 offers like other chain opticians?

We do hold exclusive event days; these event days are throughout the year; you can get up to 25% off. Exclusive event days such as Silhouette, Maui Jim sunglasses, all sunglasses, designer frames and golden ticket days are held at Eyedeal Vision.

We also do hold promotions for clients that wish to purchase multiple pairs of glasses.

In regard to offers like buy 1 pair of glasses get one free or 2 pairs for £99 or varifocals for £149 etc. we don’t have offers like these. The simple reason is that to have an offer like this we would have to use cheaper inferior products – this is not our ethos. Quality beats quantity every time!

What do you think about buying glasses online?

Glasses are very personal; they live on your face; you will be wearing them every day. Choosing your glasses should be about feeling the frame, seeing the frame on you in person and being advised on what will suit & fit you best. Online glasses websites don’t do this, your left to choose them on your own. Glasses show your uniqueness, style, and personality, your glasses allow you to see as clearly as possible. To do that properly it’s always best to have personalised styling and lens advice with an expert, not on screen or from a box that’s been sent to you via the post.

Contact Lenses

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a contact lens check the same as an eye test?

No. They are two separate tests. You can have an eye test and contact lens done on the same day or on different days, but they are two different types of tests.  An eye test checks the prescription for your glasses, your vision through glasses, and the general health of the eyes. Contact lenses check; checks the fit, vision, movement and compatibility of contact lenses on the eyes. We also check the health of the anterior eye.  Contact lenses sit on the eyeball and glasses sit away from the eyes; therefore the tests are completely different from each other.

Can a contact lens check be done if my eye test is out of date?

No. A contact lens check can only be done if your eye test is in date. If your eye test is out of date you will have to have an eye test first – this is the law and guidelines opticians must follow.

What types of contact lenses are available?

The most common type of contact lens is soft Contact Lenses. They are available in most prescriptions and come in daily, 2 weekly, monthly and yearly options. The other type of contact lens is a hard contact lens/RGP; these are usually used for patients with a complex prescription or someone who has always preferred wearing them. Most of our clients wear soft daily contact lens, which you wear for the day and discard at the end of the day. It is the most convenient and hygienic type of contact lens.

So, do you do free eye tests?

Children and patients over a certain age, receiving benefits, have a particular health condition or have a complex prescription are covered by a free basic eye test under the NHS.

We live in UK, so everyone is entitled to an FREE NHS eye test?

No, not quite. The NHS only provide a free basic eye test to the following: under 16 years, 16-18 years in full time education, over 60 years, patients or partners on income support, tax credit, employment support allowance, pension credit guarantee, job seekers, patients that have Diabetes or Glaucoma, over 40 yrs with a family history of glaucoma, complex prescriptions and HC2. Everyone else is classified as a private patient.

Does an NHS eye test cover everything?

It is a basic eye test. The NHS provides a free basic eye test for anyone that is entitled to it. It does not include, for example, checks using more advanced machines or technology like the OCT scan, which is a more detailed way in assessing your eye health. We advise all our clients to upgrade their NHS eye test to include a detailed eye scan called an OCT scan, which is included in the silver NHS enhanced test. For our most detailed and in-depth eye test, choose the gold NHS enhanced test.

What is the NHS enhanced eye tests?

Most of our NHS clients understand that their eyes and their vision are precious. As the NHS eye test covers only basic eye checks, most of our NHS clients upgrade their eye test. This ensures that they are having the most detailed and thorough eye test possible to check for any underlying problems. NHS patients can upgrade to the gold, silver or bronze NHS enhanced eye test.

What eye test is the best to have?

The private Gold eye test £85 and if you are an NHS patient, it’s called NHS enhanced Gold test £60. This is our most detailed in-depth eye test; we will use hospital grade machines and equipment to look at your eyes. This allows us to have a detailed view of your eye health and detect any underlying problems.

I don’t want the gold test, what about the silver test?

The Private Silver test is still excellent in giving us a fantastic base line reading of your eye health and assessing for any underlying changes or problems, as it includes the OCT scan.

For private clients the sight test is £65 and for our NHS clients to upgrade to a NHS enhanced silver test it is £40.

My vision is perfect I don’t need an eye test

It is easy to forget about your eye health when you have perfect vision, you may think I can see so why I need an eye test. Most eye diseases are painless, and it is only until you begin having vision problems you realise that something may not be quite right. If problems with your vision arise, this can often mean that significant damage to your eye has already occurred, and this damage may be irreversible. Early detection and rapid referral for treatment is key to saving sight. All our clients have a yearly eye test and in some cases our clients visit us every 6 months to ensure their eye health is closely monitored.

What is an OCT Camera Scan?

An OCT Camera Scan is where we scan the back of your eyes using light. It gives us a 4D picture of your eye health. The optician recommends this test for everyone. It is included in our silver or gold eye tests.

Do multiple or chains offer OCT Camera Scans?

A few stores do, most don’t. The OCT scan machine we use is currently used on the astronauts at NASA. You can’t get better than that!
Our OCT Camera Scan is also 4D HD OCT, whilst multiple or chains usually only have 3D scanners.

What OCT scan machine do you have?

The SPECTRALIS 4D HD OCT uses a patented eye-tracking system that produces 3- dimensional images of the eye, allowing us to more easily identify those at risk of eye disease. The tracking system allows the scan to be placed in exactly the same place on every visit, giving a true 4D view of change over time. This helps reveal eye disease, which may not yet be noticeable or detectable with a traditional visual exam.

What will happen in the OCT Scan?

The SPECTALIS 4D HD OCT Scan is fast, non-contact. There are no bright lights, puffs of air and its painless! The scan only takes a few minutes at most to do.

Who Should Have an OCT Scan?

Ideally everyone should have this test on every visit. This is the clearest, most accurate way to see any changes in the eye no matter how small.

It is a must for clients with glaucoma, diabetes, and macula degeneration, other eye diseases or has a family history of eye conditions. We feel all clients should have this as a part of their health check as it can reveal early changes in the eye, which you may be unaware of. The best preventative measure to protect your eyes is to include a SPECTALIS 4D HD OCT Scan in your eye examination. To book your OCT scan today call us on 0208 524 2887.

Did you know? One hundred people a day in the UK start losing their sight and 50% of sight loss cases can be avoided with the correct prescription or the right treatment at the appropriate time.

Can I bring someone with me to my eye test?

Of course! It’s about making you feel comfortable and relaxed as possible. You are more than welcome to have someone come in with you on your eye test.

What if I am worried or scared in the eye test?

Please tell us if anything is worrying or bothering you. We always explain each part of the eye test but if you need break or reassurance - that’s fine. Just ask and we’ll help in every way we can.

Who will be doing my eye test?

Your eye test will be conducted by one of the family opticians, Mac (Rasik), Bhavita, Kalpesh or Jason (the first optician Mac trained). If you have a favourite optician or want to see a optician, you are more than welcome to request them for your eye test when you book your appointment. Meet The Team.

What happens if you find something in my eye?

If we find something wrong or if we are concerned about your eyes, we will refer you to see a specialist called an Ophthalmologist. We will talk you through our findings and create the best-suited referral pathway for you. You will be explained what will happen next and you will always have us at hand if you need any further assistance.
